Happy birthday to me: Restarting Darkened Heart

My birthday was this week, and as a present to myself I’ve decided to give me a ton of extra work!

I’ve left Darkened Heart by the wayside for a very long time (seriously, how the sod did 2 years go by?), and it’s tempting to just leave it dead. But I do have a story in mind for it, a Plan, and I want to see that plan through to the end. I think I finally understand what webcomic creators say when they say that you have to do something because you love it, not because of external stimuli.

Rationality tells me that there’s no reason to continue. Who’s going to look at this old project? It’s not like it was ever all that widely circulated to begin with… I’m my own answer. I’m going to look at this project. I’m going to look at it and see an unfinished work, never quite as done as I’d like.

The climactic scene I had in mind for this project is epic to the point of near impossibility. But you know what? It’s still possible. And given that, I still want to make it happen.

Wish me luck.

  • As I just came across this recently, I haven’t had a 2 year gap and I really want to know What Happens Next! The compulsion of the narrative, you know?

    Oh, and happy birthday!

That aside, I have to say I’m really taken by the detail in your artifacts, to the point I featured Darkened Heart on my Steampunk blog last week. I’m also a co-writer in a Steampunk link party.that started today. You’re very welcome to add Darkened Heart and it may get you a sudden influx of interested people, poking about and reading the contents of the mysterious locked case.

If that sounds like a chore, I could add the link for you.

  • I’ve been meaning to thank/reply to you about your wonderful write up.

    So, first off, thank you.

I’ll take a look at the link you included as soon as I get some time. I have a nasty habit of juggling too many things, so please bear with me if I don’t follow up with quite the reaction time we’ve all come to expect from the internet.

  • I have had Darkened Heart bookmarked since right after you began it. I have, over the… years (?! Seriously, it’s been TWO YEARS?), checked it out now and then to see if there were any updates to it or to your blog here.

Somehow, it never fell off my bookmarks list, nor did it even get shuffled into the ‘Abandoned/Dead’ category. I guess I always sensed a possibility of a continuance, here.

I’m glad to see I was correct, and I’m excited to see where you go from here!

Best of luck to you. 🙂

  • I hope you do make a go of it. I have the feeling that there is a hell of a good story in there somewhere.
