Hello! Came across Darkened Heart via banner ad on girlgeniusonline.com, and I’m *so* glad I did! This is some beautiful work you’ve done. I am in awe of the mods on the Maverick Rev-6. The paint job is gorgeous, and your photography is just perfect for the atmosphere.
The presentation style is a bit like H. P. Lovecraft meets Nick Bantock (two of my favorite authors). You’ve mixed the voyeuristic thrill of going through other people’s possessions with understated creepiness that makes me wonder whether our narrator is getting a little paranoid, or if the adage is true (“just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.”). I’m happily looking forward to more!
Wow, thank you for the kind comment! I’ve not read Nick Bantock, but I clearly have to start.
The crazy/not-crazy vibe is exactly what I’m looking for, so I’m glad I hit the nail on the head. This narrative is a bit of a long game, and there’s some decidedly creepier things waiting for their big reveals, but I’m trying for a slow boil.
And there’s definitely a lot more to show. This box is the first of four, and it’s also one of the simpler boxes. A lot of the plot (and a bunch of neatly creepy stuff) is coming up.
If you like my work, you’ll be amazed by Alex CF‘s art. He’s one of the inspirations behind the Darkened Heart project. His stuff has a lot less narrative-per-object, but the objects themselves are absolutely fantastic.
